Abstract
This research aims to shed light on the military coups in Turkey (the 1960 coup is a case study), through an introduction and three investigations, by researching the internal situations in Turkey before the coup, the goals of the coup and the motives of those who carried it out, the research also dealt with the results of the coup, and at the end of the study a number of results were reached, the most important of which: that 1960 is the actual beginning of the era of military coups in the modern era in Turkey. Where this date came as a witness to clear examples of such coups before the Second World War, the first coup took place in 1923 at the time of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. The 1960 coup also took place as a military response to the troubled state of “chaos” in Turkey, which brought the Turkish economy to a complete standstill. The Turkish army, led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and under the guise of the Republican People’s party, was able to control the traditions of government until his death on November 10, 1938. The study also found that the Turkish army managed to trench itself with constitutional and legal provisions, which gave it the right, through its internal tasks, to maintain and protect the Republic and secularism in case of any danger.
