Abstract:
Professional quality of life among social workers employed in hospitals is considered an important issue associated with the effectiveness of professional performance and the quality of healthcare services, given the professional and emotional pressures social workers face as a result of working in the medical field and continuously dealing with patients and their families. Compassion satisfaction and burnout are also regarded as key indicators associated with the professional well-being of workers in health and human service professions. The present study aimed to identify the relationship between compassion satisfaction and burnout among social workers working in government hospitals in Riyadh City, within the framework of the Professional Quality of Life Model. The study also sought to determine the levels of compassion satisfaction and burnout among the study sample and to examine the nature of the correlational relationship between them. The study employed the descriptive correlational approach, and the Professional Quality of Life Scale (ProQOL) was administered to a sample consisting of 134 male and female social workers employed in government hospitals in Riyadh. The findings revealed that the level of compassion satisfaction among the participants was predominantly moderate, with a noticeably high proportion reporting high levels. The results also showed that the level of burnout was within the moderate range, with no cases reporting high levels of burnout. In addition, the findings indicated a statistically significant negative correlation between compassion satisfaction and burnout, demonstrating that higher levels of compassion satisfaction were associated with lower levels of burnout among social workers. The study concluded with several recommendations, most notably the importance of promoting supportive work environments, activating psychological support and professional supervision programs, and developing professional development programs that contribute to enhancing compassion satisfaction and reducing burnout among social workers working in the medical field.
