Abstract
This paper studies the use of the speech act of compliment in the English movie ‘Wonder’. It aims at finding what kinds of compliments are used in this movie . The hypothesis of the research is that the direct type isused frequently in the literary works especially in the movies. Theoretically, a brief account of speech act theory, classification of speech acts , expressive acts and compliments. Then , practically , the uses of compliments in the movie have been isolated and analyzed according to principles of speech act theory .It is found that in the movie direct and indirect compliments are used equally in the movie.
