Abstract

The study started in December 2023 to March 2024. The study aimed to clarify the relationship between the rate of bacterial infection of Escherichia coli in the urinary tract and the level of some physiological parameters. 110 urine and blood samples were collected from patients who visited Al-Qurna General Hospital in Basrah Governorate to diagnose the bacterial species causing the infection and isolate the most common species causing urinary tract infections (E. coli). The results showed that 66 (63.3%) urine samples had bacterial growth (pathological) and 44 (36.7%) were not. The number of infected females was 42 (63.6%), indicating that women are more susceptible to infection than men. The highest infection rate among the isolated bacteria was E. coli at 51.5%. The RBC count and HGB showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in UTI-E. coli patients (4.17±0.11) and (11.34±0.13) respectively compared with the control group. The mean MCV and PLT also showed a significant decrease in patients with UTI-E. coli compared to the control group (42.64±0.95) and (251.5±3.68). As for the biochemical tests, the concentration of cholesterol (Chol) showed a significant decrease (P<0.05) in patients with UTI-E. coli (107.74±5.02), UTI-K compared to the control group (148.65±3.31). The concentration of triglycerides (TG) showed a significant decrease in patients with UTI-E. coli (93.62±3.88), compared to the control group (129.31±4.97).
