Abstract
This study aimed to identify death anxiety and its impact on the elderly in a sample of families in Hebron Governorate. To achieve these goals, the study tool was applied to a sample of (207) elderly people, who were randomly distributed and the data obtained were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study population consisted of the elderly in Hebron and Bethlehem Governorates. The most important results reached by the study were:
1) The results of the study showed that the impact of death anxiety on the elderly and family upbringing was high, and it was found that the most frightening methods for the elderly are sudden death.
2) The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α≤0.05) in the average responses of the study sample members towards death anxiety and its impact on the elderly and family upbringing in a sample of families in Hebron and Bethlehem Governorates attributed to the variables (residential area, gender, age, social status, social level, health status, psychological status, housing status).
In light of the results of the study, the researcher recommended a number of recommendations, the most important of which are:
- Providing support for the elderly by building clubs that include the elderly to get rid of loneliness and fill their free time.
- Social relations between members of society and the elderly must be strengthened in order to get rid of fears of death anxiety.
- Formulating treatment programs for the elderly who suffer from death anxiety.
