Abstract

The protection of copyright in publishing contracts in Iraq is of great importance, as the preservation of these rights is vital to support creators and encourage intellectual and cultural creativity in society. In this context, the present study aims to assess the legal and regulatory framework for copyright protection in publishing contracts in Iraq, and to identify the challenges and obstacles faced by this protection.
A review of relevant legislation and laws shows that Iraq has an integrated legal framework for copyright protection, including the Copyright Protection Law of 1971 and its subsequent amendments. However, there are some gaps and challenges that prevent the effective application of these laws, such as the lack of awareness of intellectual property rights, the spread of piracy and illicit copying of intellectual works, as well as the lack of effective mechanisms to enforce these laws.
The study also showed that there is a need to strengthen cooperation between government agencies and the private sector to develop effective strategies and programs for copyright protection.
