Abstract:

Topographical features are important natural geographical factors, represented by the slope of the land. These slopes are of great importance in hydrological studies, as the slope affects river drainage by determining the speed of water flow on the land surface, and it affects the nature of the hydrological system of any region through the variation in the degree of slope of the region between gentleness and steepness, and this affects the speed or slowness of the water flow process. In areas with a steep slope, the flow rate increases, and consequently, the rates of seepage decrease, and thus water losses through seepage decrease. However, in areas with a gentle slope, where the speed of water flow decreases, this is reflected in the slowness of the drainage process, and thus the chance of water seeping into the Earth’s crust is greater. The study area is within the alluvial plain areas, which are characterized by a gentle, gradual slope. Despite this slope, it had a clear effect on the direction of river flow, and made it follow the same direction of the slope of the alluvial plain from northwest to southeast
