Abstract
“The summary of my study, titled ‘The Foundations and Premises of Exegetical Criticism in the Imami School,’ demonstrates that exegetical criticism within the contemporary Imami school stems from an integrated theological and methodological framework. This framework transcends the conventional boundaries of textual transmission criticism (al-jarh wa-al-ta’dil of chains of narration) to establish a rigorous internal critique of both text (matn) and content This school is characterized by a profound awareness of the problematic nature of exegetical narrations, drawing from the status of the Imams (peace be upon them) as an infallible extension of the prophetic exposition. Within this framework, narrations undergo a qualitative and advanced methodological comparison against the Holy Qur’an, intellect (‘aql), and the general context of the text .Furthermore, the role of intellect integrates with the general trajectory of the narrations to illuminate and uncover Qur’anic knowledge. This is vividly manifested in understanding existential matters, such as divine governance (al-tadbir al-ilahi) and the role of the Imamate as an integral part of the cosmic system of causes and mediums.Consequently, this methodology crystallizes as a disciplined critical movement that guides the path of Qur’anic comprehension in light of specific theological frameworks
