Abstract

            This study aimed to determine the effect of spirulina supplement consumption on reducing the severity of hyperglycemia and increasing  hematological  parameters ,such as hemoglobin levels and red blood cell counts . The study was conducted at the animal facility of Tikrit University using 48 femal rats , aged 12-14 weeks and weighing 150-200g .The animals were housed in a dedicated area under a 12 hour light / dark cycle , with free access to water and a standard diet . Diabetes was induced in female rats using a 150 mg dose of alloxan . The rats were divided into four groups of 12 animals each : Group A ( healthy control ) , Group B (diabetic control ) , Group C ( diabetic treated with 5 ml of Spirulina solution prepared at a concentration of( 8 g/100 ml ) and Group D ( diabetic treated with 10 ml of Spirulina solution prepared at a concentration of (12g /100 ml ). Upon completion of the experimental period , the animals were fasted for a full day ,they were then dissected and the pancreas was removed while blood was drawn from the cardiac vein and preserit in a formalin solution until the necessary procedures are carried out . Test results revealed that Spirulina supplements played a significant role in improving blood parameters ,regulating blood sugar levels and regenerating damaged beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas
